This print is from my original upcycled piece "Rose". It is a celebration of transformation, resilience, and the beauty found in everyday materials. The ornate frame, once discarded, has been reimagined with rich red hues and delicate gold gilt, its imperfections now part of its story. Within it, a bouquet of roses emerges—not from petals, but from the very fabric of womanhood. Each bloom is crafted from donated bras, carrying with them the personal histories, strength, and generosity of the incredible women in my community. The repurposed acrylic encasing them preserves their presence, just as we hold onto the memories and experiences that shape us. What’s in a name? A rose by any other name might smell as sweet, but would it still hold up after years of elastic fatigue? These beauties have lived a life of underwire battles, stretched-out straps, and the great wash-day disappearances (where does the other half of a bra go?). My sustainability rockstars have been dropping off their well-worn warriors, and here they are—upcycled into a bouquet of soft defiance.
The frame? That’s another story. A good coat of paint, a slap of gold gilt, and the delicate art of removing excess gold with a leaf blower (yes, really). A little chaos, a lot of love, and now it stands, as fancy as an old Hollywood dame, holding a bouquet of bras in eternal bloom.
Lean in. You might just hear them whispering secrets of comfort, rebellion, and that one time they spent an entire day with a rogue underwire stabbing them in the ribs.
