Concept:
Chic Plastique Passé transforms discarded plastic cutlery and shaped acrylic offcuts into an explosion of vibrant, elegant chaos. Each fork and knife is melted, twisted, and reborn into dynamic forms that defy their mundane origins. Created in collaboration with Custom Event Signs, this piece diverts waste from landfill while celebrating the beauty of repurposed materials. With New Zealand's forward-thinking ban on single-use plastic cutlery, Chic Plastique Passé acknowledges both the absurdity of past consumer habits and the epic shift toward sustainability. It is a visual farewell to disposable culture—a reminder that even "throwaway" objects can be elevated to art.

My Shiny Perspective:
When someone tells me they’re so done with plastic forks, I usually assume they’ve broken one trying to elegantly remove the cheese component of the cheese and pineapple hedgehog Aunty Ruth made. But no, New Zealand has officially called it quits! Single-use plastic cutlery is being banned, which means no more sad little forks snapping mid-meal. Chic Plastique Passé is my way of saying, "Good riddance!" with a side of glamour. Like a phoenix rising from a picnic party hamper that was shoved to close to the bbq, these melted and reshaped utensils are the ultimate glow-up. If this were a runway, it’d be plastic, fantastic, and strictly passé. Who knew saying goodbye could look this fabulous?
