Artist Concept:
Flailing Pollination is a powerful 3D assemblage that delves into the themes of women's reproductive rights and autonomy using upcycled materials. Headless Barbie dolls, dressed in skimpy outfits crafted from leftover birthday balloons, are arranged in chaotic positions within an old square picture frame. With arms lifted and legs splayed, each doll clutches miniature 3D-printed objects, including condoms, lipsticks, high heels, and a BBQ fork with sausages. This deliberate arrangement reflects the struggle for recognition and control over one's body. Positioned in the center of a flower, ready for pollination, the dolls are surrounded by colorful balloon "petals," highlighting the tension between personal autonomy and societal expectations. The piece serves as both a whimsical and critical commentary on the intersection of women's rights and societal pressures.
Junk and Disorderly Disclaimer:
I am in the business of Junk, old unused items people are going to throw away. My joy as a recreator is to wave my magic shiny wand and transform them into something I am proud to send out my door. It must be said though, that there is nothing perfect in the old (sorry mum) - if you look closely, you are going to find rust, scratches or the odd ugly backside as I endeavour to do my best in a sustainable way. With upcycling, must come the understanding that these come to you flawed. like the sediment in an old wine, or a tarnished old coin from years ago. Enjoy the old and celebrate our flaws, old or new! Thanks MSM.

Flailing Pollination
My Shiny Perspective:
Sometimes, art is about letting loose and seeing where your imagination takes you—like when you stumble upon a box of headless Barbie dolls and think, "What if I made them the centre of a flower?" Flailing Pollination was born from this wonderfully weird idea, brought to life with leftover balloons from my daughter’s birthday party. It’s a wild, chaotic dance of headless Barbies, each grasping at something different—condoms, lipstick, high heels, even a BBQ fork with sausages! While it’s easy to laugh at the absurdity of it all, there is unusually a method to this madness. This piece playfully jabs at the societal expectations that try to box women in, especially when it comes to their bodies and choices. But let’s be real, it’s also just a lot of fun. Who knew a flower full of flailing Barbies could spark such a conversation—and look so delightfully rebellious while doing it?
