Our Time is a deeply personal and community-driven upcycled watch sculpture, marking a significant milestone in my artistic journey. This was my first award-winning sculpture, a moment that affirmed my path as an artist and the power of storytelling through sustainable materials.
Crafted over a year and a half, this upcycled watch sculpture is made entirely from old and broken watches gifted by community members during the COVID-19 pandemic. It symbolizes the passage of time and the deep connections we build despite uncertainty. More than just a collection of repurposed materials, it represents the relationships and shared values that grew from our collective desire to avoid landfill waste.
The embracing couple at the heart of this piece embodies the fleeting yet precious nature of time spent together, the memories we hold onto, and the moments we cherish. Some of the watches, amazingly, still tick—a poignant reminder that even as time moves forward, it leaves lasting impressions on us all.
