Artist Concept:
"Vivid Imagination" is a vibrant and intricate piece that serves as both a celebration and a reflection on the art of garment making. Created from a repurposed mirror discovered at a local upcycle station and adorned with disused industrial sewing machine thread, likely intended for sari making, this artwork is deeply personal. Buttons and sewing paraphernalia, gifted by a lifelong friend named Nellicka, add texture and depth, transforming the mirror into a canvas that honours seamstresses and the history of clothing production. "Vivid Imagination" acknowledges the beauty of handmade garments while also reflecting on the darker history of sweatshops and the industrial revolution. It emphasises the importance of respecting both the craftsmanship of the past and the challenges faced by those in the industry today, urging viewers to reconsider our current throwaway culture.
Junk and Disorderly Disclaimer:
I am in the business of Junk, old unused items people are going to throw away. My joy as a recreator is to wave my magic shiny wand and transform them into something I am proud to send out my door. It must be said though, that there is nothing perfect in the old (sorry mum) - if you look closely, you are going to find rust, scratches or the odd ugly backside as I endeavour to do my best in a sustainable way. With upcycling, must come the understanding that these come to you flawed like the sediment in an old wine, or a tarnished old coin from years ago. Enjoy the old and celebrate our flaws, old or new! Thanks MSM.
Note: Please be advised that my range of upcycled wall sculptures can be quite heavy. It is essential that they are hung correctly, on a suitable weight-bearing location of your wall, specifically on the stud line. All my artworks have been previously hung in-house for over 72 hours to ensure their ability to bear weight properly. Shipping of my heavier sculptures is available upon application.
Size: Height 68 cm, Length 88 cm.
Vivid Imagination
My Shiny Perspective:
"Vivid Imagination" is what happens when a mirror gets tired of just reflecting your fabulousness and decides to join the fashion scene! Armed with a rainbow of sari-worthy threads and buttons gifted by the legendary Nellicka, this piece is ready to strut down the runway—or at least hang stylishly on your wall. Think of it as the ultimate blinged-out tribute to all the seamstresses who’ve saved us from wardrobe malfunctions and kept our buttons in place. Sure, it’s got a serious side, nodding to the industrial revolution and all, but at its core, "Vivid" is here to remind you that even mirrors deserve a little glam and a whole lot of love.
